Humans are naturally drawn to fire, so the decision to photograph this experience happened pretty quickly. I knew I wanted to recreate the incredible balance utilized in the act, so I used a long exposure to capture the symmetrical patterns of movement. It was an art. The photo captured the initial appeal, but being there and actually experiencing this ritual, was more than I could capture in one image. There was never music, but I could hear the fire cut through the air. I could feel its intensity pass by my face, and after the act was over, I realized I had been put into a trance the entire time.
