This experience tracks patterns of tensions emerging from the individual in conjunction with levels of vulnerabilities instigated by the covid pandemic. These dynamic relationships between human behavior and physical conditions will be expressed through the intricacies of fabric and its behavior within a digital context. Behavioral responses will be gauged by four variables: longing , desire, disgust, and defensiveness. The behavior of these variables will be influenced by the fluctuation of physical distance between individuals.

The nuance of these interactions will be explored through costume components of silhouette and material. Its impact will curtail the preconceived notions of textile limitations in a world with limitation on physical interaction. Material woven by hand will be used to demonstrate the effects on the physical properties of tension and vulnerability at varying degrees in distance between the strings of fabric and its overall structure.

Digital Material Conversion

Five Degrees of Distance

Gauge sizes of 1g, 4g, 7g, 10g, and 13g, were used to represent degrees of physical distance.

Modes of interactivity demonstrate variation in the materials physical behavior due variation in physical dimensions

Digital Translation

Metal Tension

Metal spike were integrated into the fabric material to represent the effects of tension against varying degrees of gauge size.

Material samples of different gauge sizes were developed and displayed in a three-dimensional space. Different properties of material samples based on distance and tension will be explored through a fabric simulation.

Fabric & Tension

The behaviors of fabric under tension is dependent on the varying degrees of distance between strings comprising the woven material.
